Sistema Moda Italia is going it alone on the issues that agitate the textile-clothing industry in this beginning of 2024 and, in perspective, in 2025. In fact, SMI has decided to leave Confindustria Moda, which will continue to include Assocalzaturifici, Anfao (National Association of Optical Article Manufacturers), Assopellettieri, Aip (Italian Fur Association) and Unic (Italian Tanneries).

The collaboration between Sistema Moda Italia and Confindustria Moda will continue on common tables and services, while SMI, independently, will carry on the activities of institutional representation at national and European political referents and the classic association activities for the protection of the textile-clothing sector.

“We are building a new fashion system. We exercised our right of withdrawal because of a choice related to the evolution of scenarios: faced with European regulations that impose processes and paths on textiles & clothing that have different times and ways from other sectors, we need to proceed in a way that is more responsive to the needs of the sector,” says SMI President Sergio Tamborini.
